I am not entirely sure where to start with this film. When I first watched it, I had no idea it was a parody. It's quite possibly the weirdest film I have watched in a long time. Now I could talk about representation of teens because that would be easy; the representation is not accurate, however, this film is a parody and highlights the misrepresentation of teens in teen films. This film makes a blatant spectacle of how ridiculous some teen films can be and the film also adds in some other parodical humour into the mix.
This film has created a parodical narrative from a series of multiple teen movies, to name a few; She's All That (1999), Varsity Blues (1999), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), Can't Hardly Wait (1998), Pretty in Pink (1986), Bring it On (2000), American Pie (1999), Cruel Intentions (1999), American Beauty (1999), Never Been Kissed (1999), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), Can't Buy Me Love (1987), Jawbreaker (1999), Sixteen Candles (1984), Dazed and Confused (1993), Lucas (1986), Rudy (1993) and The Breakfast Club (1985).
Not Another Teen Movie (2002) was not rated well by critics, receiving 32/100 on metacritic and 28% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, even though the storyline is not by any chance Oscar-worthy, it is funny and draws on multiple cliches' and mis-representations in a comedic way. Personally, I would highly rate this film for the comedic and parodic factor, but for the actual narrative, well it is a little bit vulgar at times.
Overall, I would rate this 2/5 whipped cream cans.
